ABO, Rh, and the Selection of Transfusable Blood Components Program Overview

Program Description

This course will discuss the significance of ABO and Rh compatibility when selecting blood products for transfusion and examine numerous studies that have driven best practices throughout the years. It will examine specific situations where it is acceptable, and even recommended best practice, to transfuse blood products that don’t meet typical ABO/RH selection criteria.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe when ABO and Rh compatibility is significant
  • Define at least three situations where it is acceptable to transfuse blood products that do not meet typical ABO/Rh selection criteria
