
Red blood cells contain hundreds of antigens. Blood transfusion practices are designed to allow the safe transfusion of blood and blood products by limiting and removing exposure to foreign antigens during transfusion procedures. The following presentation provides a brief overview of the major blood group systems and their associated antigens as well as an overview of the principles and techniques used to help identify them.
