
This program will discuss the epidemiology of Cytomegalovirus (CMV), from it arrival on the medical scene to its current day concerns in transfusion medicine. You will be able to review the routes of transmission of the virus, understand the growth in different populations and identify individuals who are high risk for acquiring CMV. You may have asked "What is the risk to today’s blood supply" and this program will go over the facts and the numbers to help you better answer that question and methods for providing CMV-reduced risk blood components and the limitations of each.
