Blood Inventory Management Systems Program Overview

Program Description

From addressing reductions in blood utilization as a result of implementing patient blood management initiatives and minimizing blood wastage, optimizing inventory can be a challenging responsibility. In an effort to promote good stewardship of donor blood products, while striving for appropriate inventories to adequately care for patients, many hospitals are looking towards their local blood centers for tools in right-sizing their inventories. This session will discuss methods in working between the transfusion service and blood center to create the most efficient inventory.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, the participant will be able to:

  • Determine the appropriate
  • Review the regulations and/or contract requirements for inventory returns
  • Estimate the costs and losses associated with expired products
  • Establish good inventory management practices with blood center involvement
